Most people in the network/multilevel marketing space tend to over-complicate the business. I encourage people to go in the other direction and am a big believer in Albert Einstein's concept:
Make things as simple as possible, but no simpler…
Simplifying the business of network marketing, we find we only do four things. I call these the “critical 4 C's” because they are critical to your network marketing success.
The Critical 4 C's for Network Marketing Success
1. Collect People – The first thing we all do is to collect people. We may do it differently but every successful network marketer has one or more methods for collecting people on a regular (preferably daily) basis. You may prefer either paid or free methods, online or offline, warm market or cold, and any of a variety of techniques under each.
If you're new to network marketing and need a place to start, I encourage you to look at the system that has led more industry leaders to their “network marketing success” than any other I know. That system is My Lead System Pro (MLSP) which provides training covering all of the marketing techniques you'll ever need as well as a built-in system for collecting the people who respond to your marketing efforts.
2. Capture Their Contact Information – Next, you'll need a way to keep track of the people you've collected and all of their contact information. It would also be great if that same system let you communicate with your leads. MLSP will do that for you, but the information isn't really “yours.” That is, if you decide to leave MLSP, you won't be able to take the information with you. What you really need is something called an autoresponder. There are a number of them available, including a couple that will integrate fully with MLSP, so you won't be doubling your data management issues. The one that I recommend is part of the Pure Leverage system that also includes a number of other interesting and useful features. If you want just a plain autoresponder, you'll want to look at Aweber.
3. Communicate with Them – You need to communicate with the people you've collected on a regular basis. There is a lot of debate in the industry about what the frequency should be to maximize your opportunity for success in network marketing. You can find recommendations for everything from three times a week to twice a day. Most of the top industry leaders tend to be at the higher end of the scale and my unofficial guess is that most go with a daily message. Within reason, there is no wrong answer. Initially, it's more important to pick a frequency you can maintain consistently. You can always increase it later. I'll talk about what you should say in a future post.
The good news here is that you don't need anything more in the way of technology. You already covered that under the second C, above.
4. Close them – As Tom Watson once observed
Nothing happens until a sale is made.
Just don't be in a rush. Make friends, offer value in your regular communications, and the closing part is easy. Just offer your list things that they need so that they, too, can effectively implement the critical 4 C's and become a success in network marketing. Once they get to know, like, and trust you, let third-party tools do the heavy listing for you. Make use of your company's videos, webinars, hangouts, etc.
Don't feel as if you have to become an expert in everything related to presenting your opportunity and closing your prospects. More importantly, don't make them feel they'll have to do so in order to be successful. It's a presentation, but it's also a demonstration of your recruiting system. Demonstrate a system with which they can be comfortable.
