Success in Network Marketing: Strategy No. 4 – Take Massive, Imperfect Action

In two past articles, I outlined 10 strategies that are critical to your success in network marketing.  This article explores in detail the fourth of those strategies, immediately taking massive, imperfect action. Whether you are focusing online or offline, regardless of the tactics you are using, and no matter what your current conversion rates, increasing your action level will increase your results. And, as the old homily has it, you do not need to get it right, you simply need to get it going.

The Benefits of Massive Action

No matter what is inside your sales funnel or how effective or ineffective it is in turning unqualified suspects into distributors, the more suspects you put into the top of the funnel, the more distributors will come out of the bottom. Your results are a function of your activity rate and the efficiency of your system.

Of the two, it is almost always easier to increase your activity rate than it is to increase the efficiency of your system. Of course, if you practice continual improvement, you can work on both. If you want to see immediate results, start with massive action and work on your systems over time.

Why Imperfect Action?

Let me try reading your mind. Some of you are thinking that massive action makes sense, but only after you get it right. It is one of those thoughts that seem to make sense.  Do not fall for it!

First, perfectionism is too often just a disguise for procrastination. You tell yourself you need to delay taking action until you are “good enough,” when you are really just avoiding the fears and uncertainties associated with getting out there and promoting your business.

The other problem with this is that the more you know, the more you know that you don’t know. Think of this as being like blowing up a balloon where everything you know is inside the balloon and everything you realize you don’t know is on the outside surface of the balloon.

The more you know, the bigger the balloon gets and the bigger the surface of the balloon has to be for it all to fit inside. That means there are more things that you realize you don’t know, so you again defer taking action until you learn that. It can become an endless cycle.

Start now. Imperfect action will always yield better results than perfect inaction. Besides, you will learn faster if you are actually engaged in the process.

A Sports Analogy

On Friday, March 2, 1962, Wilt Chamberlain had the first and only 100-point game in NBA history.  Would you care to guess who has the record for the most shots ever attempted one game in the NBA? Wilt Chamberlain … on Friday, March 2, 1962 in the same game.  He was 38 of 63 (60%) from the field (60%) and 28 of 32 (87.5%) from the free throw line.

Compare this to Kobe Bryant’s 81-point game on January 22, 2006. He was 28 of 46 (61%) from the field and 18 of 20 (90%) from the free throw line. Statistically, Bryant played a better game than Chamberlain.  However, Chamberlain took 37% more shots from the field and scored nearly 25% more points. Had Bryant taken as many shots as Chamberlain, he would have scored 105 points.  And, of course, if neither had taken the court until their game was perfect, neither would have been there to take the first shot or score the first two points.

There are numerous other examples from both sports and business that demonstrate the value of this strategy.  Taking immediate, massive, imperfect action to grow your business is a certain way to accelerate your success in network marketing. Consistently follow this strategy and you  may be surprised at the speed at which your business grows.
