In today’s economy, more people than ever are looking for ways to generate additional revenue without having to take on another traditional job. Because of the flexibility and potential to generate considerable income in a relatively short time, many of these people are considering starting a multilevel marketing (aka network marketing) business. This leads to the question: How do I find the top MLM companies.
Rather than simply provide a list of today’s top MLM companies (which would quickly become outdated), this article will explore the 7 traits that all of the top companies share. This will allow the reader to perform his or her own evaluations and select a business that is a best individual fit.
It is important to note that, although I use the term “MLM companies” throughout, this information applies to all network marketing companies, including both traditional MLM companies and Direct Sales companies.
The 7 traits all top MLM companies share are:
1. Unique products in high demand.
You want a company that offers a product or service that is both unique and in high demand. Don’t buy into the company’s claims that it’s unique only because it’s theirs. Is it really unique or is it just a copy of the products or services from a dozen different companies? If you separate the product or service from the business opportunity, does it still make sense. Why would anyone buy something from you that they can get at the local grocery store for one-quarter of the cost?
2. A really lucrative comp plan.
You want to be paid a high upfront commission and a high back-end residual. Some companies offer one or the other, a few offer both. High upfront commissions allow you to quickly recover your marketing costs and get you from in the red to the black much quicker. High back-end residuals is what lets you retire. If all you have is a high front end, you can never quit. It takes both.
3. A solid lead generation and lead conversion system.
You have to get people to look at your business to make money. What you need is a proven, duplicable system. That means both one that you can duplicate day after day and one that lets your downline duplicate your success. You also need a system that fits your style and capabilities. If you don’t like cold calling, don’t join a company or a downline where that’s there primary method for converting leads to distributors. Currently, over 1 billion people have access to the internet. We all have access to the offline world. Look for a system that takes advantage of both.
4. Strong company management.
Look at the company’s management team as your business partners. For me, that means a management team that has proven itself successful in the business world and especially in network marketing. It also means a team with uncompromised integrity.
5. Global Expansion.
As the network marketing world becomes increasingly competitive, the advantage goes to companies that are able to expand globally. This gives an advantage to those who are delivering electronic products or services rather than hard goods.
6. Long-range vision.
Does the company have long-range vision and a clear plan for the future? You don’t want a company that manages things on a day-to-day, ad hoc basis. Look for a company that not only has a long range plan that incorporate continual improvement both in their processes and in their products or services.
7. Training and Support network.
Does the company offer a reliable training and support platform or are you left to rely only on your sponsor? Trail and error is expensive! Most network marketers try a half dozen or more companies before they find success. This comes at a substantial cost and frustration not only for the networker, but also for their family and everyone around them. A good company-sponsored training program can go a long way to expediting your financial success.
If you’re looking to start (or restart) your network marketing business, you could do worse than to associate yourself with one of the top MLM companies that has as many of these 7 common traits as possible.

High commissions and high residuals sounds almost too good to be true. The way businesses come and go these days it is hard to see a retirement benefit from any mlm.
I look forward to the bootcamp to see what business you are recommending.
great info… very re-inforcing. You’ve described exactly what I found with my latest mlm. Thanks… I’ll be using this as a ‘ruler’ from this point forward…
Great tips on what to look for in a MLM company. I know the comp plan is very important. Looking forward to your boot-camp
Thanks, Gerald.
