Law of Attraction and Network Marketing
Whether you know it or not, whether you understand it or not, even whether you believe it or not, a very powerful force is at work in
all areas of your life, including your network marketing business. It’s called the Law of Attraction and, through it, you are attracting people, situations, events, and relationships into your life, not all of them wanted!
What is the Law of Attraction?
The Law of Attraction states:
I attract into my life whatever I give my attention, energy and focus, whether positive or negative, wanted or unwanted.
Another way of saying it is that the Law of Attraction monitors your “vibes” (feelings or emotions) and attracts into your life other people, situations, or events that produce more of the same.
So, if you think about something you really, really want, the Law of Attraction will begin to create that something so you can manifest it into your reality. Unfortunately, if you think about something you really, really don’t want, the same thing happens.
For the Skeptics
I am often asked to prove that the Law of Attraction exists. Since it’s not a physical thing, I can’t put it into a petri dish, or in a test tube, or under a microscope, but I can point to evidence of it in my life and I’m sure you can do the same in yours.
Have you ever used any of the following words or phrases to describe an event: synchronicity, karma, fate, coincidence, serendipity? If you think about the event you were describing, you’ll realize it was an example of the Law of Attraction.
A perhaps simpler explanation: think about the phrase “you become what you think about.” Of course you do. How could you become something you don’t think about? You can’t. That would require that you attract something that you hadn’t given your attention, energy, and focus.
Law of Attraction and Network Marketing
What does any of this have to do with your network marketing business? First, know that the Law of Attraction affects every area of your life.
Do you focus on the kind of prospects that you don’t want in your business? If so, what kind of team members have you been attracting?
Do you avoid calling your prospects because you fear rejection or are afraid you’ll stumble awkwardly through the conversation? If so, what sort of conversations have you been having with your prospects?
I trust you get the idea.
The Law of Attraction Process
In my seminars and coaching program, I teach a simple three-step process for harnessing the power of the Law of Attraction to attract fewer of the results you don’t want and more of the results you do want.
- Identify clearly the things that you do want, expressed in the positive. (Don’t give more attention, energy and focus to the things you don’t want.) Do this for every aspect of your network marketing business. What traits does your ideal prospect possess? What are the characteristics of your ideal team member? Describe your ideal phone call with a prospect. And so forth.
- Give this list your attention, energy and focus in whatever way works for you. Make a list, a vision board, a macaroni collage, a mind movie, anything that you’re drawn to do. (Avoid affirmations, I’ll explain why in a future post.)
- Allow the things you want to manifest in your life. This is, by far, the least understood of the three steps. Allowing simply means believing that it will happen and eliminating any doubts to the contrary.
My workshop on the Law of Attraction and Network Marketing is anywhere from three to eight hours in length. Clearly, I can’t deliver all of the information in a 600-word blog post and provide the interaction that I can in a workshop. The third step presented here truly is the most misunderstood and most difficult. Too many of us try to make things happen ourselves instead of letting the process take care of itself. It’s important to take action, but it should be inspired, “in the flow” action. Thank you for sharing this helpful process : )
I see a lot of people who are challenged by the Allowing step, sometimes because they just can’t get out of their own way and sometimes because of limiting beliefs they may or may not be aware of consciously. Fortunately, there are some very effective and relatively simple solutions to both types of issues.
